Three Books to Read in June 2017

The first month of summer kicks off with three highly anticipated books — and in the case of The Witchwood Crown, a book that long-time fantasy readers have been waiting on for almost 25 years. These are the three books I am most excited about for this coming month:

The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.

Neal Stephenson & Nicole Galland

The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.: A Novel by [Stephenson, Neal, Galland, Nicole]

Nicole Galland is a historical fiction writer by trade and Neal Stephenson, is, well, Neal Stephenson. With The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O., both writers combine forces to create what looks to be a tour de force of fantasy and sci-fi.

Raven Stratagem (Machineries of Empire 2)

Yoon Ha Lee

Ninefox Gambit was an amazing experience of hard sci-fi space opera — Raven Strategem continues the Machineries of Empire saga and looks to be another hit.

The Witchwood Crown (Last King of Osten Ard 1)

Tad Williams

To Green Angel Tower released way back in 1993. We can assume that Osten Ard has been a peaceful land since the demise of the Storm King — but now we return to the kingdom that captivated our imaginations nearly 25 years ago to face a new threat. The Witchwood Crown isn’t just one of my most anticipated titles for this month — I’ve been looking forward to this for decades!

Kindle First: May 2017

Those enrolled in Amazon Prime have two spec-fiction books in this month’s Kindle First offerings in Emily R. King’s fantasy-romance The Hundredth Queen and Adam Mitzner’s thriller Dead Certain. While I’ve always had hit-or-miss experiences with Kindle First choices, it can be a great resource for finding up-and-coming authors and series to add to your watch list (the excellent Oddfits, for example).
