Four Books to Read in October 2017

In October we revisit worlds we’ve explored before and sadly, say goodbye to one of them. These are the four books you should read in October 2017:

October 3rd, 2017

The Core (Demon Cycle 5)

Peter V. Brett

The Core: Book Five of The Demon Cycle by [Brett, Peter V.]

October starts off with a bang, as we say farewell to Peter V. Brett’s brilliant Demon Cycle series. The Core concludes the war between man and demon, with Arlen Bales and Ahmann Jardir, now united, leading the charge into battle.

Machine Learning

Hugh Howey

Machine Learning: New and Collected Stories by [Howey, Hugh]

Most of us know Hugh Howey from Wool and the rest of the Silo trilogy, but he is a prolific short fiction writer in his own right as well. Machine Learning collects his short-form work and includes three stories from the Silo world.

Tool of War (Ship Breaker)

Paolo Bacigalupi

Tool of War (Ship Breaker) by [Bacigalupi, Paolo]

The dogman from Paolo Bacigalupi’s Ship Breaker and The Drowned Cities was my favorite character from the series by far, and he gets his own book in the new Tool of War, slated for release on October 10th.

Strange Weather

Joe Hill

Strange Weather: Four Short Novels by [Hill, Joe]

The Fireman and NOS4A2 were two of the most creative horror books I’ve read. I’m hoping for more of the same from Strange Weather, which collects four of Joe Hill’s shorter novels.
